Editor's Note: This is a series of stories about Íæż½ã½ã students, alumni and community members, highlighting their experiences during our 125th anniversary celebration. We will feature 125 individuals from August 2024 to August 2025.

MACOMB, IL - - Alumna Eve Nottrott reflects fondly on her time at Íæż½ã½ã—an experience of connection, growth and belonging.

"When I think about WIU, I think about the friends that became family, experiences that shaped me and a place I can always come home to," Nottrott said.

For Nottrott, a Leatherneck takes pride in being part of WIU and its community.

"Being a Leatherneck means being proud of your roots," Nottrott said. "It means caring for your community and respecting and being kind to others."

Nottrott's favorite Leatherneck memory was working in the Office of Student Engagement, where she created lifelong friendships.

Inspired by her experience at WIU, Nottrott now works as an assistant director of residence life at Northland College.

"I have loved working in higher education and will continue to do so," Nottrott said. "It was because of my graduate assistantship in the Office of Student Engagement that I found my love for working in student affairs."

During her time as a student, Nottrott actively participated in the WIU Student Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Women in Business (WIB) and the University Union Board (UUB).

Nottrot's advice to prospective students highlights how WIU's family-like atmosphere provides a unique and impactful experience.

"Those working at and attending WIU care about you as a person rather than a number, don't doubt the impact of that," Nottrott said. "The friends you make at WIU and the experiences you have will provide for you indefinitely. If you're like me, you will be forever grateful you chose WIU."

As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite local WIU students, alumni, faculty and staff to share their stories and be featured in our series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
