Watch the Weather Change, for saxophone quartet, was composed in 2024 for Charlie Chadwell, John Sampen, and the 2025 Íæż½ã½ã New Music Festival. Over the course of 11 minutes, three strands of steady pulses — each unfolding slowly at slightly different temporal intervals in a ratio of 7:8:9 — interact, overlap, and converge. Unhurried waves of sound articulate an initial trichord (Bb-F-G) that gradually expands to six pitch-classes (Bb-F-G-D-E-A) before thinning again to three (D-E-A) by the work’s conclusion. The title is a lyric from the song “Disposition” on Tool’s 2001 album Lateralus.
