Keating Named October EOM

October 21, 2025

MACOMB, IL - - Íæż½ã½ã Photographer Rachael Keating, with University Communications and Marketing, has been named the October 2025 Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month.

Keating has demonstrated outstanding dedication, creativity and professionalism—particularly over the past several weeks—as the University’s sole campus photographer. When a fellow team member took an extended leave earlier this semester, Keating stepped up without hesitation, ensuring that all photography needs across the University were met. Whether it’s early morning team photos when the light is just right, or late-night balloon glows and football games, Keating’s commitment to excellence and storytelling through photography is unwavering.

Beyond the lens, Keating dedicates countless hours to sorting, editing, printing and processing photos, often responding to requests and emails even on scheduled days off. Her work goes far beyond capturing images—it helps preserve the University’s history, celebrate its milestones and highlight the achievements of its students, faculty and staff.

The impact of Keating’s work can be seen daily across WIU’s website, social media channels, publications and promotional materials. Each photo reflects WIU’s core values—academic excellence, community involvement and personal growth—through a visual narrative that connects generations of Leathernecks.

WIU is fortunate to have Keating’s talent and dedication, which continue to promote the University’s image in a positive light and capture the spirit of campus life in a lasting way.

As the Civil Service Employee of the Month, Keating will receive a $100 stipend (before taxes), a plaque, a reserved parking space and recognition in WIU communications. She will also be eligible for the Civil Service Employee of the Year Award in December.

The Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month Award was established in 2010 through an endowment created by the Goldfarbs. The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the annual Employee of the Year Award.

WIU faculty, staff, administrators and community members who wish to nominate a civil service employee for monthly recognition can contact the Civil Service Employees Council at csec-nominations-g@wiu.edu.
